Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't occupied japan be after the war as being occupied by us the foreign power USA I think made in japan mark could be the 20s through 40s. But then again that is why I posted can't figure it out.
Before WW2 items were marked NIPPON which is the formal Japanese name of JAPAN said by Japanese persons Pronounced Ni Hon It became American Occupied Japan after WW2 ended was move to made in Japan after the USA occupation ended in early 1952.
more or less correct -- prewar NIPPON -- LATE 1945 THRU april 1952 * Occupied Japan - post april 1952 / 1960' era to current day -- Made in Japan--- althought some items from the Occuption Era are simply marked "made in japan" as well.
The McKinley Tariff act of 1891 required all imports to be marked with the country of origin. Items from Japan were marked Nippon(Which is Japan in Japanese). In 1921 the US declared that Nippon was to be marked Japan. After the war It was Occupied Japan and then Made in Japan. There were still some variations. Tony
