And got to try it out today. Took a nice big flatblade screwdriver, notched-out a flatwasher for the blade of the screwdriver to fit into & welded it together. Seemed to work good for flipping coins out of a small (or no) hole.....even worked on foil, bottlecaps & tabs.

Thanks, the more I use it the more I like it. I'd read some posts here from the guys who use screwdrivers for coin extraction, but couldn't get the concept to work in my own hands....so I cheated ;)

The washer is roughly 1", small enough that I can poke it into the ground, but large enough to help pop the coin out. On the rare occassions I get lucky and hit my pinpointing dead-center, I can pop a coin out with one "flip". I'd taken a file & knocked the square edges off the washer & rounded them.

In the event I miss the coin on the 1st attempt (which is more often than not), I can reinsert the tip & flip-over a piece of sod (still hinged) & insert my pinpointer.

If you go to a place like Harbor Freight they sometimes have screw drivers that are 24 or so inches long..apply your washer to the tip and you don't need to bend to far..
