Can anyone tell just by these pictures if this is a weathered lunar meteorite? I'm not sure. It does attract a magnet quite well.

I took pictures with, and without using the flash. The ones are without flash. I can upload the ones with flash if anybody wants to see them, but I think they turned out more blueish than they actually appear to be.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Eh, I decided to go ahead and post the other ones, with the flash, as well. What could it hurt?

Hi Derk

The answer to the question "can a weathered lunar meteorite be (reliably) identified just by looking (whether from pictures, or in the hand)?" is actually "no". Much lunar material closely resembles terrestrial rocks in superficial appearance and mineralogy. However, if you turn the question round to "can a rock be ruled out as a lunar meteorite based on appearance alone?", then the answer is sometimes "yes".

That's the case here, I feel. The features evident in pictures 2 and 9 in particular are not at all consistent with lunar material. You also say that it attracts a magnet quite well. Lunar meteorites have much smaller amounts of metal than even low-metal chondrites and are not usually magnetic. When they are, any attraction is rather weak.

I wasn't sure what to think about those kinda oval shaped crystalline inclusions there on that side of the bigger clast material. Especially with them seeming to be oriented to one another.
I'm guessing that is what you are referring to.

It was the brecciated material and the completely different appearance where I sliced it in half, almost totally blackish except the white inclusions on the inside that had me most convinced.

Well thanks for the info, and taking the time to share it!
