Here's a couple lumber tokens. $1.00 and $.25 denominations. They read: Duncan Lumber Co., Eagleton Ark. They are aluminum. I know a few guys have token and script books. Any help is appreciated.

I heard that workers were paid with these type tokens and could only spend them in the company store.

Here are some lumber tokens from SW Florida when the big cypresses were logged that could only be spent at the Janes store.

Here's a date: According to the Bulletin of the Kansas City Southern Railway, the Duncan Lumber Company took over the local mills in 1922. They expected to ship 50 carloads per month.

Another entry shows the Duncan City Post Office is named after the Duncan Lumber Company--in 1923.

Thanks for the replies and info BCH, Chip, and Don. So we are looking at them being c.1922 to ?. I'm going to hold off on posting the green check just yet in hopes somebody comes along with the info on them from a lumber token and script book. I would kinda like to know their rarity and possibly what other denominations are known. Thanks again guys.

Trantow's Lumber Company Store Tokens lists just the 5¢ - in 1978 he said R-9 (5-9 known & $16)
Robinson's Arkansas Merchant Tokens lists both the 5¢ and 50¢ - in 1985 he said R-10 (1-2 known)

Thank you idahotokens! I will remember to double post tokens next time over in "Tokens & Tags". My friend has several more of these tokens, I'm not sure what other denominations. Is there any ongoing research or person I should report these findings so that they may be included and accounted for in any future catalogs?

I really appreciate your help. Green check. :icon_thumleft:

Your Lumber Tokens

Here's a couple lumber tokens. $1.00 and $.25 denominations. They read: Duncan Lumber Co., Eagleton Ark. They are aluminum. I know a few guys have token and script books. Any help is appreciated.

The book that gives much information about Lumber Tokens, is T. N. Trantow's Catalog of Lumber Company Store Tokens. It was last published in 1998. Three tokens were listed from Duncan: 5 , 10, and 50 Cents. All are described as being R-10, which is very Rare, with probably 1 to 4 tokens known. If your tokens were in average condition, their value would probably be about $100 each ... or even a little higher. As they are illustrated, my opinion is that there may be collectors out there who very well may pay about $25 each.

Currently on eBay, there are only about 3 regular bidders of Lumber tokens with pockets deep enough that when they're all after the same item, they often bid the maximum. Good Luck!
