Hello,
Not sure if this has been asked lately. Trying to get some comparisons between the LS Infinium or the White TDI. Looking for a PI unit that would work in the hot soils of VA highlands and mountain areas. Really like that the LS can go to the beach also. Everything i read about the TDI says it rocks for depth but have a larger learning curve. Also read some bad post about the older LS problems. Thanks for any input.

I don't have much experience with the White's but can recommend the Infinium LS, especially with the mono coil.

My Infinium handles extreme iron mineralisation very well (what it was designed to do).
The TDI is also very good and the "TDI Pro" is the Australian version and is rumored to be performing very well in Aussie conditions with good sensitivity to small nugs in hot ground.

I will not be swapping my infinium any time soon.

I have had a Infinium and currently have a TDI, and IMO the TDI is way better and a lot more versatile.

Thanks for the input everyone. Lucked into a great deal on a LS, so I'll be giving that one a spin around the block.

Mav...I think you are going to like the Infinium...I know I do.

Second time out, bagged a nice one

Hope this helps!

Got the Ls with the 10x14 mono coil, had it to the beach maybe 3 times, short hunts, one nice gold ring in Oc, because of the coverage of the coil. Mine is a little unstable around the salt waters of OC, Maryland. Swinging toward the water in the hightide lane it falses, then coming back the other direction swinging toward the water again, so the salt water sets it off. No problems in the bay at all, very stable. Takes a little getting use to it with the High low, low highs, PPing is tuff at first on the deep targets, I have dug some craters..still need to give that some time. I was looking at the TDI as another PI, got a little feed back from some friends.....on the TDI

It is awesome on the beach when it is working. I bought one and it blew 3 coils, Whites sent me a brand new on and it has blown a coil. He is bewildered as to why I am blowing coils. He says it's waterproof (the coil) and it is awsome on the beach but for whatever reason I am shorting out coils. As far as how it works on the beach......it finds EVERYTHING! I have found everything from staples to 18k gold rings. Chains and small earrings too. I will be happy when we get to the bottom of this issue. If the sellar has had no coil issues then you should be OK!
Video on the LS, first gold with it...earing

I ended up getting a nice DF, {from therover friend Matt} which has the same coil as the TDI, and is fully water proof...Jason in Tenn..has a TDI, you may want to get hold of him...good guy, Backpacks mounts his TDI ..lotta TDI guys here.............. http://www.findmall.com/list.php?73 and http://www.mytreasurespot.com/main/

Nice post OldBeachNut ...

I think anyone would have a hard time deciding which one of those detectors is a better choice.
I guess it depends on what you are mostly wanting it for.

The Garrett Infinium would be the logical choice for water hunting.
The White's TDI hasnt been around for as long but is reported as doing well hunting civil war relics.

I would try to see what others in the area you wish to hunt are using.
It would be great if you could find someone that would let you use one for a day or so.

If it's not going swimming, I would get the white's better trash or treasure separation.

Nice video Oldebeechnut, were you using the new Tachyon XC? I have been playing with mine but we still have ice on the water. :coffee2:
I learned long ago that using a land detector near saltwater is bad for the guts even without them getting wet as moisture from the air kills the electronics if it isn't waterproof.

Thanks Sandman, Sorry it took me a while to get back to you on this post, working on a few projects here at home........that video is from summer of 2010 in the bay ....the Xc is a older model the 2010 xc, have not got the new one yet and not sure if I am..the new one only gets about 4 hours run time on the good batteries, the one I have now I can get about 10, I think the one you have is the 2009 model and gets like 14 plus hours on the energizer batteries.
I always look forward to your post Sandman, great information as always.....................
thanks also willie....... joe/Obn
