Camped up here last night. One little campground with five spots and you ain't gonna get in there in the tourist season, but nobody around much right now, and no fee! (They charge $5, they could charge 50 and those tourists would pay it) Nice weather, fall comin in, only in the low 40's at night. Little lower elevation here, and got my first mosquito bite in about a year and a half.

RGINN,Nice photos as always man, skeeters around here are horrendous this year, don't like sprays got no choice if I want the treasure!!!!!God Bless and be Safe up there. HH Chris

Thanks Chris. Not many mosquitoes here around 10,000 ft. and the ones that are are pretty slow and retarded so you just swat them out of the air. This place is a couple of thousand feet lower so they have a few, but not anything like back in Oklahoma. Best part, NO CHIGGERS here in the mountains!

nice pics again rginn. Why is it called Cataract? Is that a geological term also? :icon_scratch: You might not believe this, but mosquitos have been almost totally absent this spring, summer and still now. No skeeters! I don't remember this ever being the case, in fact I took the deet out of my hiking pack weeks ago, haven't needed it. not many ticks either...

To the west of that lake, the direction you're lookin at, is a waterfall (hence cataract) that falls about 300 ft. off the top of the mountain. You can hear it a mile away, too. Now that sounds like a spectacular photo op. I can get below it, beside it, up on top of it, but you can't get a good overall pic. Too much timber. I thought it was just me, but I searched the internet and can't find anybody has posted a decent shot of Cataract Falls. Great place, west of Green Mt. Reservoir and Heeney, home of the world famous Master Bait and Tackle store.

here is one pretty nice pic I found of the falls, would love to come visit your neck of the woods some day

I can just IMAGINE the sound! thanks fishenfool! Ok, then, rginn, if you can't get the "spectacular, Colorado type landscape" photo, your job as an artist/photographer is to capture the hidden essence of these falls! dare I say it, :dontknow: don't think like a tourist! :laughing9:

umm, your flat-lander, fellow artist, Okie, buddy~

That's a good one of the falls. You can get some nice water shots down around the base, and I took some last year. That was the time I stepped off into a bog hole on a trail less travelled but grabbed a tree branch and pulled myself out before I went completely under. Here's a pic I telephoto'd and you can get the idea. Frank, Maria went with me this time so I had to bring the tent, and the air mattress. Which is alright. It's just a bigger production to get out campin, but I won't gripe because she does like 'roughing it'. Or maybe tolerates it to humor me. Just me, I put up a lean to and sleep on the ground in my sleepin bag, and extra blankets if needed. In my golden years I have conceded to usin one of those foam mats. Put up with rocks and roots always findin my hip or shoulder at 3:30 in the morning for many years. I did detect, but only around the camp ground. Found 49 cents in dimes and pennies (all post 1980) and a Galaga game boy cartridge in the case. How it got buried I have no idea. Next time out, I need to hit that lake shore, as I've found out this was a popular recreation place back in the late 1800's. It's national forest, so I'll see how the detectin goes over with the forestry folks.
