Went to the lake this afternoon. It is so low that a lot of the area that is usually under water is exposed. The area where I went is normally reached only by boat but it can be accessed by ATV right now. Took a rookie detectorist with me who is interested in the hobby and loaned him my ACE 250. I used my GTI 2500 just back from the shop. I found a couple bucks worth of clad, while he found a 14K White Gold Benchmark mans wedding band! He's on his own from now on! I showed him how to operate the machine and where to hunt too! That's just how my luck has been running lately! I will try to get him to email me a pic later and you have all seen clad, so no pic right now. It was cold and windy and the sand kept getting into our eyes so bad we had to cut the hunt short. We need the rain, but it sure is a golden opportunity to hunt "underwater" from dry land! The area is normally an island where big boats tie up and party in the summer time. It's pretty trashy and I dug a lot of trash along with the clad. There was also plenty of broken glass to contend with so knee pads were a must. I found a few pennies on top of the sand where the wind had uncovered them. Going back early next week if the weather gets better and the wind quits blowing so hard. I also found and marked an old homestead site on my map that can only be reached by walking two miles or by ATV. I doubt it has been hunted. I saw no evidence of the beach being hunted either. The area is set aside for ATV and motorcycle trails and I saw several dozen riders but no other metal detectors. But after this post, there may be several! Monty
