Possibly a saddle shield... good eyes creskol, because I don't see anything.

Found at a burned plantation site from colonial through CW. It is pressed brass about 1/8 inch thick. Confederate and Union troops camped in the area.
Itโ€™s a portion of a Victorian brass letter clip. Hereโ€™s what the rest of the back looked like. They often broke in that same spot where the metal was thin.
