Only got a minute so off the top of my head I think your right - Ed I Penny - looks like a Durham mint (I can see TAS/DVN), which makes it far rarer than the common London & Canterbury. Might need to check the mint later, but its not London, so thats a great bonus.

PS. just checked, happy its a Durham Mint (Collectable condition), but without the initial cross above the crown at the start of the legend I'm a little unsure which Edward it is. Ed I is most likely, but I'm no good with crown & portrait types, plus the full obverse legend is a little hard to make out.

UKDFD are good at IDs. Mine was a quick stab with no books before I left to go detecting.

UKDFD said its a Edward II class 14 penny of Durham. Ecclesiastical issue of Bishop Henry Beaumont, with lion and lis initial mark

so pretty happy with an old coin like this and thanks for the help :headbang:
