Great looking finds. I would really like to see some better close up pictures of the Effigy piece from different angles. That is one very cool artifact.

That's a really unique piece thanks for sharing it. Do you think it's just an effigy or perhaps had another use or function? Great artifact, nice points too.

Great effigy. I see a few nice points there too.

CT3100,

Just curious, did you find them north or south of I-10? If they're Caddo, probably NW somewhere. I'm trying my hand at finding some points in the SW Atakapa area.

Thanks.

Clay

These are from the northern part of the state, D'arbonne, D'lutre Bayous, and Ouachita River. I did work in the Lafayette area and was only able to get out once or twice. I was able to find some worked stone those few times by using the same methods as in north La. Higher contours next to, or close to water, bayous or swamps. If I remember correctly, the S.W. part of the state has a lot of prairie type land, use contour maps and google earth to identify those higher areas. I'm not sure how far to the west the salt domes go (like Jefferson and Avery Island), but they should be full of artifacts.

The effigy was actually examined by a number of archaeologists in the state. All but one described it as a caddoan effigy. The one who didin't thought it may have been the work of a very bored farmer with a nail. He also offered to buy it, go figure? It was also loaned it to a Professor at La. Tech for their small exhibit until I moved from the state. He labeled it as a Caddoan effigy. Because of the material and the fact that it weathers poorly it was estimated to around 400 to 800 years. It was fortuitous that it was turned over at some time and protected. It does dwarf what I think are some pretty nice points/tools. Hopefully, the attached photos are okay. Tried to use light/shadow to show lines and adjusted color some. Wish I could have the same luck where I live now (N.E. Al.) but just don't have access to land.
