Hello All,

It's time to wrap up Day 3 of the hunt with Quindy and Dman. Got the video all edited up and it's time to share with all of you. We went to an old spot that was occupied c. 1830-50 hoping something good would come up if we hit it hard. We spent all day, and unfortunately the finds were a little slim at first: mainly flat buttons, musketballs, and an occasional pipe stem. Shanegalang dug a heel plate and a couple other finds which I don't have a photo of to show.

The rain was threatening all day long, and I knew that if it rained on that field, as low as it was and as close to the backswamp as we were, it'd be a mud pit and we wouldn't even be able to get our truck out of there. Well, the rain held off 'till lunch when we ate the best jambalaya you ever had, then we got back to work.

It started to get dark, and I got the best signal I've ever had on my F75 since I purchased it. It was reading 86 solid and unwavering, except maybe one in 10 swings it would read 87. I called Dman over to listen to it, give him a 10% discount on letting him hear the signal, then dug. I WISH I had started filming as soon as I got the signal!

Well, out popped this!

It was almost dark, and we pounded that area, digging a few more flat buttons but nothing much else to speak of. You will want to see this video of the coin being dug. I'm lucky I didn't curse up a storm when I saw what it was. Also on the video I shared how I remove the dirt from dug silver coins without scratching them. I knew this one would be a valuable coin, depending on the amount of plow damage, and I didn't want to take a chance with scratching it.

Here's the video:

And here is the 1847-O Seated Quarter. Looks like this was a weak strike, as can be seen around liberty's head and the eagle's feet on the back, but the detail is sharp and not a trace of wear.

Once again, we really enjoyed having two of the best folks in the world down for a hunt. Quindy and Dman, lets do this again. Get your calendars and we'll set it up.

Best Wishes,

Buck

Fantastic seated quarter! The F75 is a great machine. You will continue to get better with it.

Great find! The 1847-o quarter is legitimately called "Rare" in the AU and Unc. grades. Your coin appears to have AU+ details, but the rim damage and cuts will take a huge bite out of its market value, unfortunately. Putting an accurate value on this piece will be very difficult. A real heart stopper nonetheless!

Any ideas how much that would affect the value? I know that AU examples are up in the thousands of dollars. Makes me wish this one was dug from a yard or some sugar sand instead of a plowed field! Next time, I hope it's an 1849-O. Then it would be an easy banner coin in decent condition.

That's one sweet find! Better be glad y'all hunted last week, I bet those fields are a big hog wallow now.

They will be a muddy mucky slop hole after the rain. We'd need a bateau to get out and dig. :D

That coin was a beauty and to see how excited you were was well worth the trip even if we hadn't found a single relic (which we both had a nice display box to bring home). Friends and hunting go together. I think you should have let the "Most interesting Gator Wrestler in the world" rub that coin-LOL. As Gen. MacArthur said, "We shall return". Get busy and find a CSA camp this summer for us to hunt-LOL. Thanks again for an adventure we will never forget, Q.

I'll get right on that CSA camp. I have an idea of where one is that is probably not dug, but we're talking lots of successful permission and many, many hours of boots on the ground to find it. Perhaps, one day!

Nice save ... congrats !!! :occasion14:

Way to go bud!!My most recent Seated Quarter went through a Fire and all I can see is Eagles Head :BangHead:

You'll get a nice one next. :) It's funny, when I see a seated here I know it's gonna be a good one (NOLA mint and nice condition due to being lost soon after minting). Nobody carried much silver here post-CW it seems...

Great coin there Buck--the plow strikes just give it a little character--display it well! Heck, I'd love to hunt with you guys just for the food! :laughing7:

Best, Erik

Dang the luck!!!!!!!!!! :laughing7::occasion14:
My deal was kind of a heart breaker,of all the Seateds I dig quarters the least...that and I dug some early indicators, that a date on a coin might have givin a tiny more insight as to occupation time frame??

Great Quarter! You can almost feel how excited you were from your writeup alone.... Nothing beats the feeling when a coin comes up with a clear loud round signal you never get tired of to swing another time with your coil! :occasion14:

Wayda stay hot on the silver Buck. She's a beaut!!

BB... I really enjoyed your video and congrats on the quarter. Good find. DMan said he left his eye shadow down there and just don't feel right without it. If you find it please mail it to him. You are right about Quindy and Doug, they are really fun to hunt with. Tennessee digger

Awesome quarter!
