We came across this box of treasure at a yard sale! A military guy was selling it. It was found on the grounds of a Charleston Estate. Some things, like the musket balls and pipe stems, we know are Civil War and easily identfied. Other things we need some help! I think we have a penny weight, lots of old buttons, a buffalo nickel, some old nails, 2 old rings, a sharks tooth, a marble, etc. Thanks for any info you might have!!

I think the musketballs and pipestems are older than CW most certainly--probably colonial.

The buttons...there's an interesting mix there of newer (the 13 stars jeans button) and older (the flat buttons).

I've seen the Bull Durham charm somewhere before on here...

I listed all these links for you--there will likely be information about the charm in one of them.

Man thats a lotta stuff to look at and talk about.

I don't think there is anything there you can call a "Civil War artifact". Maybe stuff from that "era" though.

The musket balls and pipe stems are, as Buckles said... prolly older in my opinion.

The square thing with six dots is a coin weight... http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,149438.0.html (HA! Big Cy already posted this) :)

The round things with square holes do NOT look like oriental coins... are there any symbols on the left one?

No idea on the "Swift" thinggy

There were British Button made that had Imperial Standard on teh back mark... does your's really say "Spaniard"?

Cool box of goodies...

The brass discs with the square holes are "conchos."  (Horse bridle and saddle decorations)  At least the one on the left in the photo of them is. I've dug them at house sites--so some of them are old, but no way to know how old.

In reply to the pieces with the holes....

The one on the left has no markings.
The one on the right is VERY heavy and rough in nature(maybe older?)

Thanks

Thanks for the link on the coin weight!

The ring in the 4th pic (top L) has hearts on it, you just can't see them in the photo.
I think it may be silver ??
