Found this quite unique find buried about 10" down and after searching (mainly on "google") still can't find this type of brooch or pendant. The "Don't Tread On Me" logo is, I believe, a snake but this appears to be a panther or wild cat. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Many thanks.

It has to do with the Black Panther Party if you google Black panther don't tread on me, You can find that panther image as one of their symbols, although the one I saw didn't have the don't tread on me wording, but it is also one of their motto's.Were the black panthers active in your area?

Size? And picture of the back helps, or description of the fastener, if present. Any guess on the metal type? (how heavy is it?).

Is it smaller than a volkswagon? Can we have a picture of the backside please with something for size reference. Also metal type if you can tell. We can pick up many clues from the backside like a closure type dateline, possibly even obtaining manuf marks in which case we will have more words to google besides black panther, dont tread on me, brooch and snake. Thanks.

It seems I have to explain this way too many times and its often like pulling teeth... We really need some better instructions on top of the WII section.

Maybe the instructions can be highlighted or capitol letters. The way it is now, it just kinda blends in with the rest of the forum and obviously many posters just dont see it or choose to ignore it.. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/136849-please-read-before-posting-items-what.html

Maybe I will copy and paste this post so I dont have to keep typing it everyday.

Wow, I just googled the Black Panther Party and the whole Party looks a bit scary! I do believe the party tried to make it here in Australia (Queensland in the early 70's) but wasn't successful. Thankyou so much, you have certainly given me some information to look through. If this pendant/brooch was from America it came a long way!

The lady is from Australia, I doubt if there were any "black panthers" down there, they were as U.S. group.

My humble apologies, but am grateful for your response. Next time I will definitely add much more information when posting. So sorry.

The size is 2" x 1" and weighs 10gms. It appears to be a composite metal. I cannot visually see any markings on the underside. back of black panther.jpg

I have added a pic of the underside and it appears there are no markings. It weighs about 10gms and is 2" x 1".

You are right gunsil, no "black panthers" here, although I believe they did try starting one up in the early 70's. Thankyou

Im sorry Goldgirl if I appeared to single you out. No need to apologize. It happens everyday because the instructions are hard to see.. Some people argue that there is no need to post the backside if there are no markings and it gets old and time consuming trying to explain..

Its unfortunate there are no manufacturers marks but maybe the backside will provide a clue. Thanks for posting and being so nice to a grumpy person like myself lol. If I get a chance I will try to help with the ID.

I didnt notice on the first pic but the eye appears to have broken so its not a brooch. Every little clue helps. A coin or ruler in the pic helps to visualize the size. 2 x 1 is kinda small.. I wonder if its too large for a zipper pull?

Here is a panther tatoo I found online from the DONT Tread On Me Tatoo Parlor.

The first Marines use to have a motto "don't tread on me"

Gunsil I realize she is from Australia that does not mean they couldn't have started a group there also, Hate is universal I am sorry to say.The Hells Angels are an American biker group but you can find them worldwide so why not the BPP and since One of their motto's was don't tread on me and that specific black panther is also a symbol of theirs it makes sense that it was from a member but maybe he was on vacation.

Another avenue you might explore would be the military possibly a squadron named the black panthers with that as their motto. Any airbases close by?
