I decided to go to a local North Shore Long Island beach today that I have never before hit. The iron readings were on almost every swing. It was hard to discern junk from a legit ring. I pulled out 3 slags of what appears to be aluminum. Each of these registered a 76 on my Whites Spectra V3. Any ideas why there would be so much melted aluminum on the beach?

Beach hunting is difficult stuff. But on the North Shore of LI you’re dealing with some wonderful colonial locations if you know where to find a them. I’ve had a great amount of luck out there (where I grew up). Keep at it bro, you’ll score some great stuff soon!

It's not junk, aluminum is worth 35 cents a pound:icon_thumright:

If you find aluminum to be Magnesium you may have found a place where old VW engine blocks were burned to get the colorful flames, a lot of steel can be the steel belted tires used to set off the engine blocks as a lot of heat is needed.

Thank you for the encouragement. LI is hard because everywhere is off limits. Even many of the beaches are off limits on the North Shore because they require membership. I found an area of woods yesterday with a very old rotted structure on it. I think the property is County property so I may be good to go.

You’ll get it. PM me and I’ll send you a few researched spots I’ll literally never get time to check out. If they produce, give me a shout out.

And if you’re looking for a hunting buddy pm me I’m out east and can share some spots where you might get lucky

I didn't know anyone else ever lit up VW blocks. Used to do that in the early 70's. After they catch fire, throw water on them and they light up the whole beach.
