Some time ago in an old local history book (1806) I came across a single reference the author made of "evidence of Spanish Silver mines" in the Blue Ridge Mtns near where I live. Based on the general reference given, I think I may have found something of interest. High up on the summit is an old laid stone foundation, although I didn't find a mine entrance or signs of a dig, I think it's worth taking my AT Pro up there once the bears have gone to bed for the winter!
