Doing book research on the reports of the Lost Cabin Mine in Montana I have come across several newspaper accounts besides versions that are in books by past authors such as Thomas Penfield and Thomas P. Terry. South Dakota has one that fits the story, Wyoming has two that fit, Big Horn Mtns. And Wind River Range. Montana has theirs in the Big Horns (1873) and another along the Yellowstone River (1863). One newspaper reported it being found around 1882-83 in the Stillwater region near Nye. Anyone ever hear of Yellowstone Jack? He is mentioned as another locator in material on the Coeur D'Alene Idaho gold bust. I did find articles on a Jack Meyer who claimed to have found the Lost Cabin Mine ledge in the Big Horns. Sorting the old reports has been interesting.

More old newspaper articles for Montana show reports of the lost cabin mine near the border of Idaho having been found, of course it is then lost once more. These old treasure stories are a tangled web.
