Got to hit my favorite strand of beach in Pine Knolls Shores on the North Carolina coast. It's always had some good finds over the years including my first silver ring back in the day. 20 years ago, I had a spell where I found dozens of .50 and .30 caliber projectiles. While there today I had a solid 19 on the Nox 800, and this guy pops out... a somewhat corroded .58 minie ball. In 1863, Union forces landed in this very vicinity intent on retaking Ft. Macon, which is a few miles down the island. The fort was eventually surrendered after a fierce naval bombardment that was impacting dangerously close to the fort's powder magazine. It's very cool to think that this ball was likely dropped by one of the soldiers involved in this action.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Managed to eek out another minie from this same site today. However this one is smashed flat...presumably from a high impact strike. It's shown base up in the pic. I was also able to find a .30 projectile of the same type mentioned in the original post. Haven't found one of those in many years.
