This was found in a tailings pile. Has the glassy texture, color is shiny black with just a gorgeous blue combination. The only obsidian I have seen before is all black. If not obsidian thoughts on what this could be...Thanks
I'd actually have to have it in my hand but being from a tailings pile lends a strong possibility that its a bit of slag glass from the mining operation unless your finding obsidian regularly in the surrounding country side. If it is obsidian there is a form called rainbow obsidian that has colors in it that are usually deep reds and umbars but green and blue occur as well. If you like it that's good enough to keep it
Thanks DD, slag glass was my first thought also as the area has a good history of mining. After a while looking at it I'm not sure of all the features slag glass has. On the 25th I'm going to take it to a local geologist and get his opinion.
