I have been having some issues with the upper right button on my remote, like more times than not. This causes a lot of grief when adjusting settings. So I contacted Barts Big Boys to make sure it was still under warranty and it is. They gave me the site to contact for warranty work and so I have started the process. In a way, this is a good thing as it forces me to not use the VDIs as a reference because I won't be able to. I have been getting somewhat better at knowing that I am digging iron but this machine does love the round objects so I still dig round iron pretty regularly. this morning I was struggling with a particular target in locating it using the wiggle technique and finally used the pin point function on the remote. This was a bad mistake as it took me several minutes to finally get it out of that function. it amazes me as to how hard the ground can get in just a month or so after all the rain we had the rest of the year. Dug some deep memorials, pretty and green but not what I was hoping for. only dug two wheaties the last two hunts, 1937 and 38. I know that I would have dug a lot less with the heavier AT GOLD, gotta love the lightness of the Deus. I am getting to where I have a dislike for the aluminum twist bottle caps. DL

We only had 1 inch of rain in Sept. here in Mi. The ground is like concrete, and crumbly dry! It's a struggle to dig 3 inches, so I have been hitting the sandy parks by the beach, and a few non productive plowed fields, until the beans are off the productive fields. Now the Deus, I am only two weeks in and I agree, I know I am new at this machine, and it has some things I really like, but I have never dug so many bottle caps in my life

I was told if you hit to many bottle caps to use a little more "Silencer" ...it helps to give the caps a more broken up signal

Not a problem at my relic sites, they are free of modern trash, trying to get some hours in, and get to here more signals hit a park............gonna take some time!

Good luck on the warranty return, had a buddy returned the control unit and it was fixed and returned promptly.
Have a 3030 that I sent in, got dinged by the customs for duty, got it back and traveled to England and the frigging thing didn't work again. I got so miffed it's been sitting in the back corner of the garage in a box for the past 2 1/2yrs.:BangHead:

Last time i was in a city park Elmira N.Y. years ago, i found a hypodermic needle buried in the sandbox .
So i stay out of the parks now,the first 25 years of MDing. were in the parks of the same town and adjacent towns .
Parks back then late 60s 70s had a lot less junk in them....people are pigs.
I would rather go to a cabin or home site abandoned long ago... than an old still active farm...half them farmers are drunk beer cans in a lot of fields too....people are pigs.

I hope your warranty experience goes well.
I`v wondered if the buttons on the controller would let fine dirt into the in side .
I bought the silicone cover, hard to put on and clouds up hard to see ,but its helps keep dirt out when pushing the buttons.

Ya what's up with that, I have one 900acre permission, wine screw tops, foil packaging, pop/beer cans all from the owner. PIGS! No respect for even their own property-but they don't spray chemicals one use fertilizers-but burn all the plastic garbage in the burn barrel.:icon_scratch:

Some of the post Victorian homesteads are just garbage dumps basically, one can't even detect as there's so much trash in and around the house sites that one is better off just going else where.

My internet service is sporadic at best but I finally got ahold of someone this morning by text. Got my RA # and already shipped the remote to Moe at Detector Electronics to get a new keypad. So far, very happy. It is nice to see quick responses and Moe assured me that this would be a quick turn around.

I guess I look at it a little differently, yes, people are very trashy and it is terrible but, I figure if I managed to get a hypodermic needle safely out of a sandlot, It might keep a little kid from getting stuck with it while playing. I have cleaned up an area one time that had several dozen used dirty hypodermic needles lying on top of the ground, all I could think of was a little kid or kids getting a hold of them. used my gloves and a pair of needle nose pliers, what was sad was the fact that a trash dumpster was like thirty yards away.

Good luck on the return, at least you have a backup.

Here in MI much of the ground is like brick from lack of rain, I was detecting a large lot the other day that was mostly shaded and it dug like butter.

Well, after you been digging with a "jackhammer" because the ground is so hard, soft ground does seem like butter LOL. I can't help but be a little envious when I watch some video and they are able to actually dig plugs in nice soft black dirt. I do have a couple of areas that sort of resemble that but most do not. Shade is nice too. I kind of figure that the hard stuff is there to make me appreciate the good easy digging even more so. I sure hope that you found something good in that butter dirt! DL

hey my friend, there is a video by Dirtfishing where he uses the deus in a short park hunt. he shows how by simply lifting the coil, you can see the VDI numbers drop and this usually means trash or a bottle cap. It does work but I have been digging them anyways for now just to prove to myself that I am right in assuming that it is a bottle cap. I don't think that it works as well on actual round iron rings but that is probably because the oxidized metals are actually different from each other.

I'm guessing the ground in Ark is generally a whole lot harder than MI.

I got booted off the butter ground before I found anything good, nice old historic area too.
Was apparently an unused vacant lot but the church next door owned it and requested I leave so I did. Had a total of about 3 hours in 2 days there, so safe to say it is not exactly overflowing with treasure, or could have been already picked [found a few clad quarters from the 70's/80's so I am doubting that]
Had these trees, don't know what it was growing on them but they are green, about the size of a small orange and very dense. One dropped and clocked me on the head and I saw stars, so that shade can be a mixed blessing.

well, the western side of Arkansas tends to be very rocky mixed with clay. A lot of places have dirt with a mixture of rocks but here it is rocks with a dribbling of dirt. Rocks are everywhere unless of course you get on a snake LOL. it would have to be fill dirt around here to be easy digging and there is some of that here and there. I once paid a guy $25 to break a garden spot with his tractor, he broke his plow right off the bat. no garden spot there.
