Looks like gold to me

I detected this yesterday, I think it's an earring. It looks and feels like gold to me, but it doesn't have any of the regular gold stamps on it. It has what appears to be an 80 stamped on it. I have heard of .75 for 18k but never 80. I'm trying to decide whether to throw it in the gold pile or the junque pile. Anybody got any advice?

Sure looks like it has an oversized ear poker to be an earring. The quality looks impressive. It would go in my good finds box until I found out for sure, (from a jeweler).

Interesting piece, I've never seen any like it. Of course, I've never been a jewelery man either...
Looks to be at least gold plate, if not the real deal...

I think that's what I'll do Al, the gold pile is not that big yet. It looks close enough for me. By the way welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome to the Forum. I know my gold pile is too small too lol. I have a minelab excalibur 800 and i paid it off the second time i went hunting at a beach here in Fla. I think i figgured it out that i paid it off about 10 or 12 times in about 3 years

Caratjuice, Just some thoughts, as I could be way off and brand myself a fool. 2 came to mind. A nose ring for a bull or maybe a decoration for the front of a man's tie? Couldn't tell ya but it would look good in both of those locations.
