Looks like an insulator, but is not...can anyone help?

This came with a lot of old insulators. It's about the same size (3-4 inches), but appears to be made of cast iron. It's shaped like an acorn and has the word ACORN stamped on it. It's really kind of cool, but what is it?

Could be an insulator, or a fence topper. the word acorn on an insulator rings a bell, but its doesnt resemble an insulator at all. It reminds me of the tops on those chain link fences.
