Hi!
It's been a while since I posted any mysteries but I have one today!
This looks like a whistle and I supposed it could be if maybe it was missing pieces. It does not whistle or make noise. It looks like it was on a chain and it has two crude looking rings with amber stones embedded. The stones are really bright and under a loupe they almost look "rose cut". There are no markings anywhere on it. If you're looking at it with the stones on the left, the left side seems hollow and the right is enclosed except for a small slit on the bottom.
It has a little weight to it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need a dog to be sure. :)

I know how dog whistles work. The dog sees you blowing on a whistle that doesn't make any noise and thinks you have lost your mind. He starts barking frantically to get you to stop.

It may be a dog whistle, but the reason I ask if it will whistle is a buddy just sent me a whistle he made for my daughter and it has the same orifice's as that does....and it whisltes

It may not be if you hear NOTHING at all. I have dog whistles and you can kind of hear them. That they are totally "silent" is a misnomer.
But give that thing a good long toot close to Fido.

(And I know this sounds silly, but they are small and this may happen: Just BARELY put your lips on it, don't cover the big opening in the barrel, that is where the sound comes out.)

Update- all you can hear is the air trying to going through, the dog just looked at me funny then dismissed me. I turned around and blew it and asked my husband if she did anything and he said she didnt do anything.

:laughing7: Bev,.........I am not saying dog whistle! If that slot on the end goes through to the big "cut",in the middle, and you "Purse",you lips,to just force air through that slot it should "whistle"....been trying to teach my daughter all week, and she is not a dog

Dog's not broken. It's just not trained to react to that pitch.

Blow that whistle then issue a small treat.

Do that 10-15 times over the next day or two.

Then go into another room and blow the whistle.

Bet the dog shows up with a tail a wagging!

bev my cuz trains her border collies, with the silent whistle, you need short bursts
not long, kind of like morse code, long 2- 3-sec blast, short 1-sec blast, some combos
command come, 2 long,or 2 long 1 short.or 1 long,types of calls are distance dependent
and you may have to adjust the frequency, not all dogs hear the same frequency, and
i think think the pitch/frequency is distance dependent too. how far it can be heard
hope it helps, thats how she explained it to me yrs ago

I think you are missing a part.
If you look inside the angled slot (first pic) do I see a line of solder ?
Im pretty sure there would have been another piece like the slotted one on the end witch directs the air across the angled slot.
The air has to be directed across the angled slot sometimes called a wind cutter otherwise its not a whistle just a tube with a hole in it.
