Looks like a rosette but the back is unusual

My husband dug this yesterday. We think the item could have been in a fire possibly and may have been silver plated which might explain why one side is toasted looking yet the spring style clip is perfectly untouched looking after contact with the ground. It's about the size of a half dollar but I have never seen this type of clip attachment on a rosette ever. I know Civil War era rosettes are just a brass bar across the back where you thread the leather through.

It looks like a modern style pin with a post (broken off) and a spring clip backer. It probably had an enameled design on the front thats roasted away.
