Just went on a quick hunt and found what appears to be a button of some kind. It was around 4 inches deep at a church from the 50s. Anyone know what it might have come off of or a time period. I’m guessing around the 60s. Thanks!

Maybe a button from a church organ? :dontknow:

Possibly but I’m not sure this church ever had an organ. It’s a small church with only one piano not that is, not too sure about the past. You think the buttons on organs were copper?

There have been several of these posted here but as far as I know none have ever been identified.

Ok then, I have no choose other than to deem this item to the crucial part of the jstar21853 joint strike alien space ship that landed to make earthly contact only failing its treacherous mission because it lost it E button. Good try... maybe next time!

Oh my... someone has an active imagination! :laughing7:

In taking a second look at your piece, it's made of cast brass, the 'E' hasn't been punched in the center, so it's designed to be useful or practical rather than attractive.
It might be an elevator push button. 'E' for Emergency... I'm just throwing darts here to see what sticks. :icon_scratch:

Interesting find. I hope you get a positive ID. I have no idea what it is. Sorry.

Congrats Bear Finder, I believe you've just joined a unique mystery club.

There have been other posting of similar or identical items I remember some, including myself, believed it to have been the top cover over a wine bottle cork. Other possibilities were Emerson Radio, Edison something or Eastman.

I recall that in that posting, someone had submitted a map where these things had been found, only about a dozen of them.

Dave, I like your concept of organ component. If not organ then perhaps some other kind of musical instrument.

Bear Finder, Look up posting by "D.C. Matt". I remember he had participated in that discussion and may have been the poster of the map. You might look for "E Button" in an advanced search.

I think the fact that the stamp is off center suggests that other buttons are out there stamped with other letters. It might be interesting to use the "Post Photo" feature in the Bing search bar to see if other examples might show up in other music notes/keys. This is the first time I've seen the context of a church yard associated and may be a significant detail. Perhaps coffin related.

Best wishes!

OK Bear Finder, The last posting of one of these was Dec, 5 2018 by "JBnNC". In the replies to that post are links to previous finds, discussions and info.

Good Luck!

Maybe we should make a list of the states they have infiltrated....

Here is a long thread. There seems to be at least 2 different styles but they all have an E. Some are cast, some stamped, most are concave. Some have an E in a circle. Many of them appear to have pry mark as if they were a plug in a carburetor, antique level or from a metal can of brake fluid.. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/220391-early-enginners-button-5.html

Alright, now I’m officially baffled. I thought it was just trash or some sort of button from some jeans but I guess it’s more complicated that that

I rarely throw anything like that away. About the only things i toss are things i know for sure are trash like hunks of iron and aluminum slaw. I have a little box for my oddities. Never seen anything on these forums that nobody has solved for so long lol!

Not another one of those mystery 'E's.
