Looks Familiar?

Okay, this may turn out to be nothing but this is a solid brass object I found today in west central Mississippi. I attached 2 photos. For some strange reason it looks familiar but I can't seem to place what it is or what it could've gone to.

It looks like the part to a lock. The part that when the key is turned it goes into the door jamb.

I was thinking part of an old interior door lock as well, it looks to thickly cast to have been from a clock works.
