Need some help - I live in SE Texas and do most of my hunting at schools, parks, and old homes ect.. But can make it to the beach in an hour and a half, not to mention the numerous river/sandbars in the area. I started with a minelab xterra 30 and have no major complains - but just need something I can coin/jewelry hunt with around town 75% of the time or hit the beach and feel confident. I have been looking at many different machines but keep coming back to Minelab (Sovereign or Safari) and Whites (MXT). Of course there is the NEW AT Pro but its going to be a while before all the result come in. But if there any other that you think would fit my situation - I would enjoy hearing about them. Also my budget is in the $500.00 - $700.00 range and I'm not against buying used. Looking forward to all opinions. Thanks.

Re: Looking to upgrade

The MXT is a great detector with lots of coil options with the D2 coil you can get those really deep targets. The MXT will find really small targets real deep, I wouldn't trade my MXT for any other detector or even 3 of any other detector. Once you learn it well it can hold its own against any detector out there. HH

Re: Looking to upgrade

I think you would do very well with any of the detectors you listed.

If you stay with Minelab, think about the Safari over the 705. The Safari detects using multiple frequencies (1 to 100 kHz), whereas the 705 is a single frequency detector. It has the capability to search in 3 different frequencies, but you must change between 3 different coils to do so.

Good luck with your choice.

MXT is an excellent all around detector, simple to use and very capable. :coffee2:

Well i am a Sovereign lover I tried a lot of others did not like the MXT or the X Terra or the Safari........... But i really like the Sovereign........

The MXT is a good choice for an all around detector, but for the beach nothing beats the Sov GT in wet or dry sand. While I prefer the Sov GT even for land searching some people have to look at a screen to have it lie to them sometimes. It is a nice feature sorta like a XM radio on a car, not really necessary.

Thanks for all the information guys. Sounds like I wont be disappointed with the MXT but the Sov GT just cant be beat. Think ill start saving for the GT... as well as the digital meter - at least till I can develop an ear for it. Thanks again
