I’m looking for a bit of help. A detectorist posted the coin pictured below on a coin collector’s forum to obtain an ID back in April. The coin is called a khamsiya, minted in Yemen back in 1694-1695. The person posted the coin after reading a widely-covered story on the connection of these coins to the capture of a rich pilgrim ship off the coast of India by Pirate Captain Henry Every. The coin was correctly identified and matches perfectly with 18 other coins found to date in Southern New England, yet the OP was quick to dismiss the coin’s connection to piracy without any sufficient knowledge of history from that time and part of the world. Despite the OP’s disbelief, I’m hoping to contact this person in hopes of adding this coin the population count of found specimens after confirming its recovery. The OP’s user name was Saxonearth, who mentioned finding the coin a few years ago metal detecting a field in northern Massachusetts.

Here’s the images of the coin –

If anyone knows how to get in touch with this person, please send me an PM. My research on these coins and their fantastic history remains ongoing, and the subject matter is under development for film documentary. If interested, here’s a few links to the original story back in April.
