What qualifications do you have?
ie:
Are you an experienced diver?
Have you been or are you now a sailor (Someone w/boating experience)
Are you an experienced marine mechanic
" " " photographer
Etc...
What are your qualifications for a postion aboard a "dive/salvage" boat!?

i only need to take my final exam and open water test through padi. not too much exper. in marine mech but i am a quick learner. am willing to start at the very bottom and work hard to do what ever is needed. i do work on cars and such so i have some familiarality with engines. i was a helo mech in the army. i know i dont have much to offer anyone at this point but i am a hard worker thats not afraid to get into the work. my granny told me before she died that the only obstacles i cant over come in life are the ones i never try to tackle. if i sound like someone that you may be willing to take under your wing and show me how stuff goes. let me know or let me know if you know anyone who will. from the little diving i have done it is the biggest rush i have ever felt. wish i could live there if i could. thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you.. rich kirsch

Here's a solution .... ;)
AND!
I am being totally serious !
Depending on your situation, and your age....
You can join the service,
The US Navy would be your best bet, although the US Army does have divers!, and apply for "Diver Trainning"
If you are Promised "Dive School" and the "key" word is "Promised"
Get it in writting
from the Recuirting Office"
You'll receive the best trainning/experience available! ;D
AND!
You'll be paid for the experience !
Remember! I have 30 yrs Military Experience !
I was in ALL! Four of the Branches !!
&
Of course, I was in a US NAVY Unit!
In, THE! Mobile Underseas Warfare Unit 109 for 4 yrs!
(This IS! Not "A! "Seal" Unit!" )
SO! ~ I am speaking from actual experience! ;)

cpt bill, you said all four of the services. does that include the Coast Guard? just asking cause I was a "coastie". if so where were you stationed?

As you know,
The US Coast Guard
Is NOT!
A part of the "DoD" (The Dept of Defense!)
It is, now!, Under the Dept. of Transportation
It used to be "The Dept of Revenue!", Since 1776!
But!~
In 1967, it was placed under the "DOT" !

I think they are now under the department of homeland security.

in times of war the coast guard becomes part of the navy

T

Yes!
I am aware of that..
I just did not want to degrade the Coast Guard
By mentioning that they are a part of that agency!
As you all should know...
We already have Total Home Land Security
It's called
"The Second Amendment" ;D [/b]

I certainly don't want the govt's protection..
They did such FINE of showing the world how good it is
On "911" :o

If you would like to work on a salvage boat, there are a few options.

1. You could always become a welder like me. I do a lot of work in the maritime industry when I feel like it. Jobs are constantly thrown at me like you wouldn't believe. There are ship salvage companies that would definately hire you. Magone Salvage in Dutch Harbor, AK is pretty good. But they do actual salvage not treasure hunting. Probably not what you're looking for.

2. If you want to be a deck hand, get experience. There are several maritime oriented colleges and vocational schools which will teach you everything you need to know about working as a deckie. Then you would be ready to find a job aboard just about any vessel. I would recommend getting a Merchant Mariner Document from the coast guard as well.

You kind of remind me of a bunch of guys I met when I worked out in Dutch Harbor. They would show up from all over the country talking about how they had watched "Deadliest Catch" and wanted to work on one of the boats. Did they have any experience? No. Did that stop them? No. The weather and vomiting did.

Anyway, the bottom line is that you need some sort of skill and you need some experience.
