Welcome to the Forum from Virginia! As digging440yrs said, practice. Get to know the machine and what it is telling you. And if your in a house, start off checking your yard. Nothing better than learning the machine and how to dig the smallest and accurate plugs for the items than right in your own yard. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!:icon_thumright:

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Wisconsin for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome !

GO PACK GO ! Here's a few quick tips : 1. Fill your holes. 2. Dispose of all trash you find. 3. Keep the face of your coil level to the ground at all times throughout your entire swing. 4. After cleaning all the sand / dirt from the inside of your coil cover ( if you use one ) , reinstall the cover and then use a thin bead of clear silicone along the space between your coil and your cover. Run your finger around the crack to push the silicone down into it. * Do Not put the silicone inside of the coil cover ! * After letting it dry over night , you'll hardly even notice it's on there. This will keep black sand and mineralized dirt from getting in between your coil and coil cover , which could cause you to get false signals. 5. Learn your machine ! Place a few of the most common targets ( good and bad ) on your lawn about 5 feet apart , then listen to the different tones and/or readouts your machine makes when going over them. This method will also help you to learn how to pin-point with your detector , as you can see the target on the surface as your detector picks it up. Good Luck and Happy Hunting !

Welcome to the forum from Massachusetts!

What detector are you using? Welcome to Tnet from an Ohio coin shooter. Best of Luck in the greatest hobby ever.

Welcome to TreasureNet!
The best advice I can give you....and this is for future reference....
Jeff Gordon is only kidding.

Two things:

Patience! I've hit places where I suffered in the hot sun, seldom even hearing a sound in the ground. I had a hunt last week where I only found one penny. I've had hunts where I found nothing at all. Then you run into those spots where you up and down until you can't bear to get on your feet again.

Sounds! Forget target ID, though they are helpful. What you are looking for is repeatable solid signals from two directions of swing. After a while you'll start to imagining the shape of the target in the ground based on the sounds alone. A solid sound with a ragged ending is usually trash - but not always.

Also make sure you get a quality pin pointer.

Welcome from N.Mississippi and good luck
