Recently dug these out of a field, The first one has quite an arch to it.

The 2nd one is a much thicker metal with screws still in place.

just my 2 cents without trying to look anything up about them..... the one with the high arch looks like from a Kentucky rifle, while the other one looks like from a CW era Springfield

Oh man worst part is I own vintage repos of both those rifles hahahaha. Man my brain must not be working correctly today:tard: EDIT actually i have enfield not springfield....darn misfiring brain

Yeah, i was thinking the first one does seem to be from a long rifle like a Hawken maybe.

This is an H. Lehman rifle. He started making rifles in Lancaster, Penn. in 1834.

The second one is cut out for a patch box, so that rules out both the 1861 Springfield and the Enfield rifle musket. Iron butt plate with a patch box. I've got to think about that some more.

Your iron buttplate with a long straight patchbox-notch in its right side is from a .52 Sharps Rifle... probably the Model-1859 "Berdan" Sharps Rifle. The Sharps .52 Carbine of civil war fame did not have a patchbox.
