Looking for some advice!

Hi, are these beaches in Pennsylvania ? Try going to TNet's Pennsylvania thread and post your question, but be sure to put the beach names in your title and anyone who know's anything there will chime in.

You can access it on the TNet's Homepage towards the bottom of the page, or just click here:

I detected those areas about 2 years ago with no problems. Don't recall any restrictions or certain times to detect or anything. Go for it!

There is great surf at Pa's beach ::) Del aware has coin beach . 1700's shipwreck copper washes in

I've never detected on a beach before- well, a few lake type beaches, but not the ocean. Mostly I was curious if the public beaches in Delaware have restrictions on metal detecting....I've heard you can't detect in the dunes, only the surf line and below but don't know if that is true or not??? Thanks again for any input!

dunes are off limits just about everywhere. No restrictions on Delaware beaches that i am aware of. good luck

I"ve never hunted any beaches yet either. My advice to be on the safe side is to first look on the internet for any info on the beaches you mentioned. Find out who is in charge of them and see if they have set of rules and regulations posted on the net. If not if there is a number to call and get some sent to you in the mail or email, I wouldn't mention metal detecting to them, wait till you get the info and if it's not on there then contact them again about it. Also you might check the state's website and see if they put any ristriction on parks or beaches.

Hey, I lived in the area for 7 years (before I began detecting). I have checked since and this is what I found.

Coin Beach- from Indian River Inlet north 1 mile to the old Coast Guard station. After a winter storm, they find some old coins from a shipwreck. Legal to detect except for the dunes.

Town beaches- Rehoboth/Bethany legal to detect but fill in your holes, these are family towns. Rehoboth has a special men's beach at the south end that might be a good bet for gold.

State Park beaches- Cape Henlopen, Indian River, Fenwick - Check the DE DNR website, but basically you can detect the beaches but not any other part of the parks. At Cape Henlopen, there are some potential unexploded ordinances in the dunes and around the old army base. I would suggest checking in each day at the ranger office to tell them what you are doing. This cuts down on the hassles.

A must see tourist stop. There are three treasure museums in the area. One in Lewes with some finds from the De Braak, one in Georgetown at the community college (50lb ingots of silver from the Attocha). By far the best one is in Fenwick Island, the Shipwreck museum is in the same pink building as the Seashell City. They have an amazing collection of finds from the area. Get the owner to show you some chains from his vault.

Good luck.

I have actually hunted coin beach before. I did not find any coins but did manage to eyeball and pull some decent pottery pieces that were seriously weathered by the sand and water. I went there during the summer and there had been no major storms for a while. It is best after a storm if you happen to be there then. I have seen some great pieces pulled out of there in the past. My wifes uncle pulled a small silver bar from there many many years ago. Good luck!
