I have been going to Prescot AZ. & will be going more. I have been T.H. there for about a year off & on. I have found some nice areas but I want to know if there is any one that can tell me of some really good spots to go to that are not obvious. I have a 4x4 & like to hike. Things I'm looking for Meteorites,Gold,Indian artifacts, relics, I will hunt for any thing. I have maps so I can find exact trails.I have just got back well I was there we went to a place called CAMP WOOD. That was nice lots of good hiking. Also looking for a a good back way to the GRAND CANYON from the south. I have Sean some trails on the map but want to know the best. If there is any one looking to T.H. in SO. CAL. that is my stomping ground can tell you of some good spots. I will have some pic,s of my trip to AZ. that I will post soon. THANKS SAS<><

www.arizonaoutback.com Most of those ol' boys live and hunt in that area . Chris Gholson runs the web site . Also , which trails are you looking for in the Canyon ? I know of one but you gotta start from inside the Grand Canyon National Park and the trail is totally UNMAINTAINED . If you take I-40 east and exit at rt.66 (exit 53) and go east for about 18 miles you will find Antares Road . Go north and you will wind up at what they call Grand Canyon West . I think it's about 45 miles or so .

Hay paratrooper thats cool info. I can use. Thanks a lot SAS<><

I have a bunch of books on the area, no secret spots since they aren't making any more ghost towns or Indian camps! (except a couple I've found in Southern AZ)

Many of the locations of past Apache battles still hold finds, but the newer laws mean you don't want to be seen with a pouch or bulges in your pockets. Also, many are on the reservations and you'll just get shot and stuffed there ;)

I'll post or pm some sites of interest when at home later. I also have the National Geographic map software of all AZ (easy to email) as well as a desk full of paper so if anything else specific comes up feel free to ask.

Hay JONSTER Thanks. Yea I know what you mean about the Reservations about 12 years ago Two friends of mine & I where hiking in the Laguna MNT,s in San Diego county. We where chasing deer & looking for artifacts.Found are self's on the Res. we where seen & chased one friend was caught two days later he showed up. They had held him in there jail with nothing to eat for the two days. We have not been back there. Look forward to your post. SAS<><

Havent had time at home to look stuff up, sorry.

There's a few ?ghost towns off of why 69 south of town, in the Bradshaws. Humbolt,Mayer,Cordes, nearby Bumble Bee(private land, being 'restored') too. Maybe a dozen or so more back from the golds days. Some other old names of small mine camps are big bug, Cherry, catoctin, camp whipple, Kirkland, senetor, and more all twenty miles or less from the city. Jerome would have a lot of of places to hunt still I suppose.

I dont know what's left of the old railroad through there, it ran from Mayer clear up to the mine at Crown King, tracks were pulled up in the early 1900's, but had hauled a bunch of ore in its day, I imagine the road left could hold bout anything anywhere. Might be worth the trip to the top to see if anything is worth checking out.

Another route to poke around might be road up from Phoenix, the black canyon hwy(49?), as they say lots of holds ups and stage robberies happend in the tight turns. Lots of spots may have not been hunted in years as they are near the pavement now, and seem inconspicuous to me.

Theres baby canyon ruins on the agua fria, and many old Indian villages below the rim.
A flat spot on turkey creek near the tuscumbia was the site of a fairly large skirmish.

Lots of gold in the Bradshaws, of course. Head toward Rich Hill /Stanton! Might need to join a club to get a piece of ground to work, though. I've seen flakes just glitering by the thousands in some streams (lynx), open to the public for panning only. Great with the kids. very fine, practically non recoverable flour stuff..

More arrowheads near the Dewy run, off 69, 2-3 miles in along grapevine gulch.

If anything is of particular interest I can look it up.
