The first three letters in Greek make I.H.S. placed at the head of representations of the crucified Jesus, often said to stand for Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus the savior of men) or In hoc signo (in this sign), with reference to the alleged vision of a cross of the Emperor Constantine.

Is there a skull with crossed bones at the bottom? If so, it is an older crucifix. But no skull doesn't mean it is NOT old - if that makes any sense...

Somebody posted a crucifix a few months ago. Lots of research was done on it by lots of folks. In the end we decided that we simple didn't have the expertise to determine exactly how old it was (it had the skull).

My OPINION is that yours is a mid 20th century piece. A better picture might change my mind. No matter how old, I think it's a cool find. If it was mine, I'd put it on a chain and wear it.
