Hey all,

I've been tasked with identifying a couple of porcelain pitches and I'm way out of my league. Unfortunately I don't have too much information.

There are two different designs. They both would have been purchased in the Midwest, probably between 1945 and at latest I would think 1965 (could be a bit later, just a guess). If I had a gun to my head, I'd wager they came from a department store, possibly Younkers as that was all the rage at that time, but similar stores are possible too. I believe both are made of glazed porcelain. They are similar colors but are not otherwise related to one another as far as I am aware.

Here is the first design:

On this design, I was told there are no markings of any kind on them. They are not from a set, it just happened that two people both bought the same pitcher; when one owner passed away, the second ended up owning both :tongue3:.

Here is the second design:

Again, also a pitcher and similar color scheme but not otherwise related to the first design as far as I am told. The only marking the second one has is this sort-of "embossed" star on the bottom:

And that's all the information I have! Any help would be superb. Thank you.

Ugh, cancel my ID request. I thought I was in over my head but I managed to google my way into at least satisfactorily reasonable IDs for both. If someone comes along in the future wanting to know what these are, I was able to find both on Ruby Lane.

I was way off in terms of age on both. They are evidently late 1800s "salt glaze" pitchers. The first is a "cattail" design, the second is "grapes and rickrack". The maker IDs are dubious at best but have seen Monmouth for the first and North Star for the second.

Good day! I actually believe BOTH pieces were made by the same initial company, within a few years of each other, under different names. In essence, North Star eventually became Minnesota Pottery/Redwing Pottery Co and it was common for many early items to NOT be marked....having had quite a number of North Star/Mn Pottery/Red Wing pieces, I believe the Cattail piece is indeed early Red Wing. Great stuff either way!
