I recently found a place on the farm that I think is from the 1700. But there is Civil war and younger stuff also. The ground is flat and from the top you would ever know that anything was ever there. In the middle is a huge maple tree. I am wondering if it was burnt during the war or if even then it was just flat land next to a spring that they stoped at. Any way here are my best finds from this week minus the civil war bullets and several pounds of square nails. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Any information would be great.

Nice SC button!

Welcome to t-net! :icon_thumright: Looks like you've found a good spot there. :hello2: Like the button & buckles a lot.:hello2: Have Fun! Andi

Nice stuff, I love that button, very nice SC button!

Welcome aboard!

Most of your stuff is mid 1800s to late 1800s (not colonial - yet) That being said, you already made one killer find. The button is a 1850s South Carolina state seal button (most likely used during the civil war). It was most likely manufactured by Scovils company (as they produced blank channeled button backs). I would suggest going back to where you dug that button and keep searching, that is a nice one.

Thanks everyone !!!

Your button is a beauty! And as Dan said where that was found would be a spot to grid thoroughly as there is probably still more goodies in that area.

really great finds, love the button and the buckles

Thank you everyone for your kind remarks!

Thanks everyone !!!

It is late and my book is upstairs - but heck with the button...the droop wing eagle is the tongue to a tongue and wreath buckle! Seriously, go back and look for the rest, the other half of the tongue should be there along with perhaps the wreath. I believe this is a Mexican war era or perhaps later militia buckle. I will look it up in my book tomorrow.

Looks like a "Eagle on Stony Mountain" militia buckle tongue........maybe 1830's-40's? My buddy found one here in Iowa..........

Holey Moley, I'm REALLY jealous of that SC button. And that bullet beside the 3-ringer looks like a fairly rare Richmond Labs Sharpes! Wow - get off of Tnet and get back there!!!!

Nice button! Look's like a good area

Thanks guys!
The Cannon Ball Guy helped me on the "What is it "forum. The bullet is an unfired Confederate "Richmond Laboratory" sharps for .52- caliber sharps rifle or carbine.
The buckle he said was State Militia circa 1830s "Eagle On Stony Mountain" was a generic military device.
