DrDetector and I met up this morning at a local church camp I've searched before and found plenty of clad, but little else. I did manage a 46 wheat, but there was nothing special otherwise. The ground is almost rock hard; I, for one, hope we get a good soaking from Hanna this weekend. We shifted over to my aunt's nearby for the afternoon; she has a cellar hole on her property that dates to the early 1800s and I've found lots of old wheats there. The Dr found a relic that he'll be posting and I did a little better: an 09 wheat (no VDB), a little piece of (apparent) silver from a bracelet and a gold plated ring. In the field, it looked like gold, but I couldn't find any markings. At home, under magnification, I found slight peeling that revealed the plating. Still, I've never found an old plated ring in such good shape. For a time, at least, I was celebrating the ring. Even more, I enjoyed the first day of school! Miss halfdime and Junior now go a full day, and some of you parents know how nice that can be!
