DrDetector and I met up this morning at a local church camp I've searched before and found plenty of clad, but little else. I did manage a 46 wheat, but there was nothing special otherwise. The ground is almost rock hard; I, for one, hope we get a good soaking from Hanna this weekend. We shifted over to my aunt's nearby for the afternoon; she has a cellar hole on her property that dates to the early 1800s and I've found lots of old wheats there. The Dr found a relic that he'll be posting and I did a little better: an 09 wheat (no VDB), a little piece of (apparent) silver from a bracelet and a gold plated ring. In the field, it looked like gold, but I couldn't find any markings. At home, under magnification, I found slight peeling that revealed the plating. Still, I've never found an old plated ring in such good shape. For a time, at least, I was celebrating the ring. Even more, I enjoyed the first day of school! Miss halfdime and Junior now go a full day, and some of you parents know how nice that can be! ;D

Glad to see you finally had some time to yourself Henry ...

The ring is very nice & the wheat is a good sign ...

Heck ~ At least I trust Dr. Detector carted you around in the elegance of his fine chariot ... :icon_king:

I've been in the fine chariot in the past; he said he's done some work on it and "antiqued" it. He brought his backup today!

Nick,

It's true, I applied for antique status and it passed so it's got the plates and antique status now. I had at one point been driving it every day but now it's reserved for once a week driving. But at least I'll never have to worry about inspection or registration again! We had a great time but like HD said, the ground was not cooperating much today. I'll post up what I found in a little while.

Henry,
It's been a while since I remeber that feeling but 13 yrs later I still do! ;D It's always bittersweet.

Gold looks good - too bad not solid. That's about what I find. Still looking for that solid gold band....

Great hunt! That '09 really looks wonderful. . . (the ring's not bad either )

OK now that I've got my camera up and ready to go I'll post some pics of the day as well.

First, the mighty Halfdime got a little shaken up at the sight of this miniature albino snake! Yikes! Well, turned out to be plastic. Here's a picture of my snake Bruce with it, for size comparison.

We had a good time, the ground was very very dry and hard-packed, so the digging was difficult. I pulled a little under $2 in clad from the camp area, then we headed out to the 2nd spot.

I found this item, which I believe is a pin. We were thinking it appeared German but not sure. Anyone recognize it?

I also pulled out this item which is some sort of old pulley or guide or something. It's got 'LIBERTY' and 'PATENDED' just inside the outer lip, and has two screw holes at the bottom.

Last two finds are two matching keys from under a tree in the front yard.

Any ID help on those two items would be terrific, thanks!

Looks like you had a good day..

I believe the silver "snake" piece is from India, and is either a bracelet or a belt originally..If the silver registers at coin silver, around 86% , than it most likely is from India/Pakistan. They made this style for centuries, and still do, but the older ones, like yours, are better made, and more flexible.

Item one is a Sharpshooters medal missing the "qualifications"...

Here is a complete one ...

Not that it needs to be stated...but You're the Man, Nick! You nailed that ID for sure. Too bad I couldn't turn up the rest of it, though.

I know...I did a couple volunteer days at the camp we talked about and sampled it today; all modern, but lots of it. My guess is it was searched a long time ago and there will be something old to find; it just will be few and far between.

Nice finds

Any chance this piece is from an old sewing machine?

A couple good things. The ring does look nice. I found a plated gold ring - nice and big. Plating was coming off big time. :P

Kids and 1st grade? Seems like a very long time ago. ::) Enjoy it now. You will blink and they will be in college.

It's cool that you had some company. 8)

They'll be in college and I'll be in Depends ;D. DrDetector is a good guy to detect with, and he's not afraid to go off the beaten path in search of treasure!
