Nice finds! I don't know much about bullets ( except I like finding them ), but it looks to be a modern copper jacketed one. So, do you like the sniper?

It is a lot more work than I thought, at 4 inches wide, it turned out to be the slowest hunt ever! Doesn't go as deep as the DD, but pinpointing is a breeze!

looks like you are getting it figured out, kind of forces you to slow down but that can be a really good thing. whats a little scratch? it happens!

Your bullet looks to be a pistol bullet, fired. I'd guess either. 45 or 9mm which is easily figured out.

I'd say .45

I guess you could guess the caliber by the merc & the bullet compared to the middle finger.

Oops, did I give ya'll the middle finger?

:)

Nice scrounging there , Congrats !! Your soil must be rough on coins that Merc looks rather reddish.

I would go with a 45 acp 230 grain full metal jacket it should me sure just under 1/2 inch across (.45 of an inch) the bullet that is , the merc will go a bit bigger say about a finger.

You hit the nail on the head. Small coil forces you to go slower but also picks the goodies out of the trash. You had a fantastic day. Congrats.

Everytime i buy a new coil and make a great find... I have a lot of coils! You will love the sniper coil that is what I found the belt plate in my avatar with

Yea I was caught off guard when I found her.. the dozen or so dimes I 've found previously have been he typical shiny and sexy type, this one came out all dull grey and sad looking. Honestly, it looks like a Merc pulled out of the desert, as I've seen on other posts. My best hypothesis is...get this... This was found in a crappy neighborhood:dontknow:not the ritzy side of town my silver would feel safer in:laughing7:

sniper coils are good for working thru the trash for the treasures...

metal detectorist tend to be old white guys mainly --many feel ill at ease hunting in "he hood areas" (quite frankly some of the last virgin spots are most likely in the rougher areas of town.).. many of my best finds come from "tough areas" --but since (a) I know how to carry myself in such areas and (b) I pack a gun in case of "trouble" -- I tend to hunt where I please ..(old empty vacant trashy non posted lots and such)
