Look what I dug up

Those are shotgun shell bases. From about 1900-1960 when they started making plastic hulls.
The paper rotted away, leaving the brass base.

(and yes I answered this post without pictures. :)

Some people colllect those.

Yep, you're right.
For the past three years I've been sending all the shotgun shell brass that I find to "Turtlefoot13" (a TNet member).
He's putting together a shotgun shell database in his spare time.

Anytime my detector passes over one of these, they sound like a nickel. . . about 20% of the time they're either a V-Nickel of a Buff
so that's why I end up digging them. . . LOL.

yeah, I hate that.
I have like 300 of those things.

I don't mind them, they're kind of cool.
I'd rather dig these than clad.

I will try and find some more of these... Got a field left to detect...

Look like that lol?

Anytime I start finding shotgun shell brass heads, I know folks have been there. . . and maybe lost a few coins
as they pulled another shell from their pocket to reload (at least that's what I hope for).

Oh, and welcome to TNet! It sounds like you're in a nice place to hunt:icon_thumright:

I found a 1917 wheat penny in the same location. So your right about that....
