These I took as I begin my trip out of Nevada back to Colorado. On my way out of our shop in Carlin NV I took a little jaunt over to a place called the Carlin Canyon, which is right off of I80 east of Carlin next to the Carlin Tunnels on 80. There are no signs that lead you into the canyon, as you need to take a frontage road that goes under the bridge over the Humboldt river. It's kind of a neat little place to spot some mule deer and various water fowl, but the birds I saw weren't very social and they all took off. Going back to I80 on the frontage road between it and the RR tracks Newmont Gold Company financed a wetlands project and I stopped by to see what I could get a shot of there, but it was the same thing as the birds there didn't want any pictures taken and I only got a few shots of some Egrets and one Blue Heron from a distance. I took a road east of Elko that runs SE to connect to the road that runs south out of Wells NV and once again got on Hwy 50 at Ely Nevada. There I could travel along what I call the backside of the Ruby Mountains and more open wide country. As I went across that country I was hearing on the radio of a big fire in Duchesne county Utah and I was sure I could see it once I got over the mountains at the Nevada Utah border area on 50. I could see the big plume of smoke from what they call the Pole Creek fire from more than a 100 miles away. I was hoping to see that plume from directly south when I got to Utah's I70, but it got to dark by then and I called it quits in Green River Utah for the night.
