Detector(s) used
Minelab Safari with SEF 8x6; coming soon: FORS Gold+
Hey TNetters! Haven't been in here in quite a while as I just haven't been doing as much detecting since I moved back to California a couple years ago from Washington. I guess I've just been busy with our church, my two jobs, and a lot of other stuff, including my new hobby (working on turbocharging my 1991 Miata, lol). Anyhow, I thought I should drop in with one of my recent finds, a silver religious medallion.

Background story is that my wife had to go to a training session Yuba City for a few hours on the same day I had off. So I took her down there and while she did some training I did a bit of detecting in Live Oak (where I only found a wheatie) and then in a park in Yuba City. Found a bunch of clad and then this little silver beauty popped out of the ground from about 4" down. It has a date of 1830 but according to this site that doesn't really mean anything:

"Dates are good but be aware that it may not be the date it was made. Miraculous medals are often dated 1830 because that is the date of the vision that inspired the medal." (http://psalterstudies.wordpress.com/2009/10/10/collecting-religious-medals/)

If anyone can help identify the hallmark that would be great. I tried the main site on the net but couldn't find this particular hallmark. Anyhow, it was nice to get out and find silver again. Hopefully I'll get some more time to get out and come back with more silver.

BTW, I'm still rockin' with my Minelab Safari! Poor thing looks beat up but she still works great. I'm even still on the original Radio Shack rechargables I bought for the detector, lol.

Happy hunting!

Ray

Hey I found one like that once! They are pretty interesting and I have to wonder why they put the 1830 on them.

Sweet pendant. Those are always fun to find!

The date represents when the person was officially recognized as a saint. I myself have the same type but mines not silver ;D

Nice find Ray and good to see you are doing well down there. I get out now and then and really need to post some finds but heading to down to Centrailia tomorrow for work and I'm sure I'll throw the detector in.
