I got a call yesterday to go look for a lost gold ring, first in a long time too. I've been mostly out of it for 5 years now.
The guy with the lost ring though it would be where he was cleaning the lawn mower or at the neighbour's house where he helped him cut a felled tree, and pile the wood, and brush. This all happened a year or so ago.
The soil was sandy and sift, so given the amount of time it could have sunk a little so I was digging a few targets, probably a dozen pennies, nickel, dime, two quarters, scrap, bottle tops, and what I believe was a scriber. I got a high tone 88 on my detector, I asked the owner (90 years old) before I dug this one, " If I find a silver coin, can I keep it?" , so I dug out George VI quarter, and later a mercury dime.
So I never found the ring, but a good thing did happen, as I was detecting, basically beside the main road a fellow stopped, and said sorry to bother you guys, He wanted to know if I could look for a lost ring in his back yard, and he lives in an area, or more precisely a corner lot in a very old settlement. So I'll be hunting there in a week or so. Like always I tell people it won't cost them a cent for me to look for their ring. But would like to keep a coin or two should I find any, and this place I know I will.
