Finally made it back from my trip to long island. The first few days was spent in a very very odd spot. Searching high and low on what seemed a super promising property yielded only one type of find. British musket balls, and literally no other signs of humans during that time period. One would expect that if you found musket balls, other relics are not far behind. Being right on the water, It seems though as the british were shooting from the ships doing military training drills. Other than that I can not explain finding only musket balls. If they were shooting at someone, I'de have figured that there would be other objects/signs of life. So we headed back to a few other spots where the rest of my finds came from. This is the highlights as i have not gone through my "trash" yet, often digging in the dark something gets missed and I am sure I'll find a few things when I sort through it. In my mind the best finds are the 1872 seated(first old silver with the mxsport), and what appears to be lead grape shot from either war of 1812 era or rev war era. There was also a neat keyhole cover as well. Now its time to be back at work, wish I could detect for a living instead.:BangHead: 20170416_160813_resized.jpg

Also intersting fact on that funny pull tab, one of the first ever dated 1962-65. Funny that it might become a desirable relic one day like 50 years from now haha

Long Island hunting is tough business. So much is disturbed and/or hunted. Nice digs never-the-less, and I don't think you're very far from some rev-war success!! Nice seated

yeah, my buddy and I were laughing that we are probably the only people getting mad about digging nothing but british musket balls haha.

Congratulations on a nice mix of coins! I'm very jealous of the seated LOL. 350 silver coins and I still haven't hit one. Yours is beautiful!

I can only hope to hit 350 silvers! This is only my 7th or so with the mx sport, and with my old bounty hunter I found 2 or 3. Either way I was super excited to find a seated and knock it off the bucket list.

Congrats on a good hunt and specially that seated!! Do that seated some justice and give us close up shot. Lol

I agree. There are certainly worse problems to have than finding musket balls . Did you take the caliber to determine they're British? I occasionally hunt in Suffolk county and have had luck finding colonial sites, but it's very difficult with private land and development.

I'm sure you enjoyed the island with the detecting!

Haven't brought the calipers home from work yet, but I'm pretty sure eyeballing it on a ruler.

It's a big Island! Lots to explore
