I have the lonestar and the book says coins " DISC' DIS/NOTCH at 3:00 jewelry "autonotch" DISC/NOTCH knob at 2:00

I go by the book also and it is one pinpointing machine. It's great for shooting coins. Plus with the headphones the batterys last forever. HH

If you don't have a manual you download one from Bounty Hunters web site. The adjustments are tricky to detect both coins and jewelry, but keep trying till you find the sweet spot. This machine is a good learning tool.
