Where are you?? You could always try your state capital, or if you have an idea where loggers use to log(i.e. general area), you could check land ownership records.

i don,t know where you are but if you ever get up to the gold country in California i could point you in the right direction ,i could even show you some places if i don,t have to work , the best thing to do is find an old logger ,trust me they love to talk about the old times. also the local library in the town i grow up in we had a small newspaper that went back to the 1860,s and the library had all of them on microfiche you just went in and asked to see them and tell them what date your interested in and they'll give you the right role theres a wealth of information on them .
