Logdog? Period?

Hi;

While processing my father's estate I came across this item. Is this what I believe is called a log dog where one end is attached to one log and the other to another log? If not what is it? Period? As you can see, one end has been beat on. My father had done his house in old Spanish style (St Augustine) with door knockers etc so there is a chance that this was leftover from a collection that he may have purchased.

Most log dogs have two arms with hooks. This could be a gate or door hook.

trying to figure out why the one end has been beat on like they had to drive it in.

Sorry for your lost. Did he have old style working window and door shutters? I’ll show it to my friends that forge. This seems easy but I’m stumped.

@ Hughett No, but he had early style Spanish doors with iron knockers etc made for the house. As a child I recall a few trips he made to St Augustine Fl about the time he bought the house.
