Shannon and I spent the day at the log house. She got the first keeper....looks like 1938 wheat but hard to tell the date for sure as most of the coins here are really bad! Then she found a bullet (not shot) and a Ponds Extract Co. lipstick.
I found a little silver ring...looked really bad till I cleaned it a bit, a regular penny a heart button a buckle a nail with the number '30' on it and lastly a fork with an unreadable word/silverplated. And of course all other unmentionables we always bring home for some reason. ::) And I forgot the machete so hunting around beyond the house was almost impossible. :-\
The finds were few and far between today but hunting with a buddy sure is a lot more fun than being alone. :)
I had a great time and hope to go hunting again soon! :)

Nana ;)

Nana,

sounds like you and Shannon had a good day, nice artifacts. Finger ring? Youth?

have a good un................

The ring fits my finger...so I don't think its a kiddie ring Sherm.... let me tell you how I found it....I had been digging in the dirt for a bit and was sitting on the ground next to the house scanning the hole I dug. After finding what was in the hole I was looking at the boards on the house and the bottom board had a lot of stuff laying on top of it...so....I took the pin pointer and rubbed it through all the stuff and got a beep! And there it was! Just waiting on me to find it! :D

Thanks for the link Stoney! I had no idea why there would be a number on a nail! It was lodged in between the stones of the fireplace.

Thanks!

;)

Nice finds and congrats on the silver ring! Does it have a hallmark or a stamp? That is for sure a date nail, some of them can sell for $250 believe it or not. Was there a railroad close by? They are typically associated with railroads. HH, Mike

Hunting with someone else sure makes it better.Congrat's on your all's find's.HH

Nana.........very nice little ring and keepin swingin cause the area you are in with those finds must have some silver.......johny mack...oh yea that Vinnie Barberino thing in my post was for you cause you like funny stufff...aloha

Sounds like you had fun. If you seen any rail road ties around that would explain the date nail. Often times they were used at each end of a cattle gate. The number stood for a year, like your 30 stood for 1930. And Bavaria Mike is right, like coins the date nails have key years that are prized by collectors. I use to know which ones were key, but like everything else, I've forgotten. I don't believe yours was but check it out to be sure. I know 00 (1900) was a key year. HH

Great ring Nana and the date nail is cool too.! Glad you were able to hunt with your daughter....does make it more fun!

Neat stuff, Nana. You have some interesting finds there like the ring and the date nail. Now we have something else to research and learn about.

Thanks yall! ;)

It is neat about the nail....there is an old RR about a mile away. It maybe from there. And it also could be they put it in the fireplace stones for the same purpose?

I learn something new everytime I post my finds and it always amazes me the knowledge that you all have!

Thanks again!

Nana ;)

Great stuff Nana! A wheat, silver, and a date nail sounds like a great place to hunt to me! Good luck, and keep at this spot!
