Locks...where are the best places to find them?

I would think that since most RR locks are switch locks that abandoned track switches might be the 1st place to check, then abandoned railroad yards. It might be best to remember that even if the lines are no longer in use that the RR still owns them. If the top of the rails are very rusty then good chance they're not being used-just a bit of advise as would hate to hear that you were detecting down the tracks and didn't hear the northbound freight coming.
 

I found a small brass/bronze coated lock down 6 inches at a house that was about 80 myears old. Good luck Pangus.
