Hi guys and gals,

I found this locket a few days ago in an 1870's site. I am stumped as to what it was used for. It had 4 prongs on each side with two missing on one side and one on the other. The two stems on each side has me confused, with one being hollow and the other solid. I had at first thought that maybe it held a miniature picture but am not convinced of that yet. Does anyone have any ideas?

Nice find! It probably held some stones or maybe even a small photo.

What you've found is the case to a Victorian watch fob locket. The one pictured below is 10k rose gold, so you might want to have yours checked. These watch fobs had a reversible locket set with an intaglio stone on one side, that often had another stone on the reverse. REALLY Neat find, Breezie

Great ID Breezie. I agree it looks like 10K. http://www.trocadero.com/stores/vintageslg/items/914882/item914882.html

Thanks for the great and fast ID Breezie! :hello2: I really do appreciate it very much, thank you again!!! :headbang: Big Cy thanks a million for that picture of the mourning locket! My hunting partner (CC Hunter) called me at work last night and told me of the ID that Breezie made and then he researched it from her ID and seen some mourning lockets on EBAY that were close. Thanks again, you very dependable fellow TNETers! Consider this green checked!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I have a mass collection of finds that I have made over the last 36 yrs. that I am finally going to categorize and organize for my wife's benefit. I am verrrry sure that I have numerous items that are Whats Its. So, if you guys are up to the challenge, I will be offering these up over the next few months (or longer) for your opinions!

You're welcome IronMan. I know how frustrating it can be to find something cool and not know what it is. :laughing7: I would have it checked for gold content.

Kuger, sorry you searched for 2 days . . .Victorian junk is my thing, so I've seen fob lockets like this. Breezie
