As I was cleaning up today?s finds I noticed this piece had a seam around it, cleaned it out with a toothpick and noticed the hinge. I pried it open with a screwdriver and honestly didn?t really want to touch whatever was inside. But I did notice the fabric still attached to the lid. Anybody know what this is? Thanks for looking. This is likely a makeup compact, probably rouge or blush applied with a cloth pad to the face.
If you clean it up more, there should be a makers name stamped on the back.

I agree with ANTIQUARIAN that it's a Makeup compact. I've found the exact same thing (size and look). After a little cleaning mine turned out to be a Princess Pat Cosmetics Compact (1930's).

These are usually made of thin copper & very delicate, so take care if you are going to try to clean it.

When I was a kid every woman carried a rouge compact.

Thanks guys. It?s solved, but can?t figure out how to mark it from my phone. When I go to the web version I?m not signed in..and can?t remember my password. I?ll try again from my computer.
