Hi all,

Tomorrow is a wash out so tonight, I went back to the place I found the LCs and square nails last weekend. I only found a couple of Pennie’s from the forties, some lantern bits and this lock which is pretty interesting. I’d anyone has any info on what kind of lock this is and approximately how old, would definitely appreciate you sharing. It appears to be made of brass and cleaned beautifully with some HP magic sauce. It also has no marks other than the 8 on the shackle.

Looks like you are correct Jeff. It is a 3. Looks like it measures 3cm.

Thank you too for the info. Certainly looks like #48. Was that listed as a brass casing? No way this thing is iron casing with the shape it came out as. Shackle is 3cm across. Top of shackle to bottom of case is 5.5cm. Key hole shape makes me think it was a double sided type. I’ll be on the look out for a key like the one you have above when I go back. If iron though it becomes less likely that I dig it.

40 May be brass., hard to tell if it's a Round or flat shackle.
But is a Flat Key if a Climax according to above info

Ok. Probably need to take a step back here. How is it measured? When I measured outside to outside of the shackle, it’s 3cm. That being said, if I measure centre to centre of the shackle, it’s 2 1/8cm. So if it’s outside is right, it can’t be #40.

I'm not sure whether cm or Inches either to be honest.
here in PA , 1961 to 1973 the only thing with cm were threats
that one day kids would have to learn a new way of measuring
things.
it's always been Inches here :tongue3:
Didn't even know of cm's till TreasureNet :coffee2:
I still don't use them

We were told in 1968 that our 5th grade class would begin to learn the metric system. It would be in full use, in the USA, by the time we’re were graduating seniors. Kind of like flying cars so far, don’t think it was a good prediction. However I do own a lot of metric sockets and end wrenches.

Yea I did too, but I rarely paid attention to the numbers.
it was more like which socket fit Tighter when I used it .
the try then use method :coffee2:

LOL, I meant where do I measure from. Outside edge to outside edge of the shackle or middle to middle of the shackle.

I would think one of these areas to measure,
but :dontknow:
